Champak's journey began on the promising note with its theme of being a best seller in children's magazine for almost three decades now. The first issue of Champak was launched in August 1969. The first issue of Champak was purely story centric and illustrated by Bimal Lohani, the senior artist with Delhi Press. After the first year, the story page was redrawn by the artist Doreen Potra, who besides drawing beautifully crafted cover illustrations, also transformed the magazine. Her linework and trendsetting style set the trend for the contemporary designs. Since then, each edition of Champak is a multimedia magazine, which includes story, music, colourfull illustrations and photographs. Some of our well-known artists like A.K. Nagappa, Pradeep Nair, Manish Gupta and Vijay Kumar have created the latest cover designs for the magazine.
In 1979, the first emphasis was on the art and the story department was planned. The editorial team of the magazine was headed by Shri Ashok Kumar, Deputy Editor - Champak. This made the magazine one of the only fortnightly magazines that has all the departments functioning together.
Ashok Kumar prepared a team of dedicated and committed among the most skilled artists of the country. Ashok Kumar's commitment to quality control and the high technical standards ensured that Champak was a magazine that people read and enjoyed. In the over thirty years of its existence, Champak has risen to being one of India's most popular picture magazines with regards to children's literature in magazines, selling in vast numbers in several parts of the country. 7211a4ac4a
